Last year, I went on a fantastic cycling trip from the Netherlands to Montenegro. This reliable bike took me there with ease, from the idyllic cycle paths along the canals and rivers in France to gravel tracks through the mountains in Italy and Montenegro.

Why am I renting it out? Before my trip, I was convinced that I could only do this on an e-bike. Those five months on the bike proved me wrong. I’ve gained a huge amount of confidence in my own physical abilities. I feel healthier and fitter when I cycle using my own muscle power. (I often had the battery switched off.) That’s why I recently bought a second-hand ‘old-timer’ Giant, which I’ll be cycling on from now on, including during my next trip in April 2027.

The Koga is now in the shed, which I think is a shame. It’s in top condition and I’d love it if someone else could use it for their own great adventure. I don’t want to sell it because I might want to use it for another adventure in the future.

Optional: Burley Nomad bike trailer. After my trip, I bought a bike trailer. I haven’t used it outside the Netherlands myself, but my experience in places such as Belgium, France and Italy is that there are excellent, extensive cycle paths there for cycling with a bike trailer.

The bike is a men’s model, but as a woman (180 cm), I found cycling on this bike very comfortable. The advantage of the men’s model is that the frame is very sturdy and the frame bag is also very handy :)
